Road Show

The 2008 Road Show Photo Album is now available. Take a look!

The South Carolina Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy hit the road in May of 2008 to honor what is nationally recognized as Teen Pregnancy Prevention Month. During its first-ever Road Show, staff of the SC Campaign visited 19 counties, held more than 40 events, directly impacted more than 1,200 people and through media efforts delivered messages of teen pregnancy prevention to another 1.2 million.

The inspiration of the Road Show was two-fold: first to celebrate the work and dedication of local providers doing great things throughout South Carolina. Since 1990 teen pregnancy rates in South Carolina have decreased nearly 40%. Certainly a reason to celebrate and pause for congratulations. The second task was to inform South Carolinians from all walks of life - schools, faith communities, community based organizations, parents, and the business community - that there is no time for complacency when it comes to investing in our young people's health and well being. Despite declines South Carolina has teen pregnancy rates that exceed rates across the nation and every 58 minutes a South Carolina teen gets pregnant.

While traveling more than 2000 miles around South Carolina, staff of the SC Campaign increased awareness of teen pregnancy through meetings with press outlets and key leaders informing them of the issue and the consequences teen pregnancy has on South Carolina; meetings with local teen pregnancy prevention providers discussing solutions; and awareness events informing community leaders and stakeholders about the impact of teen pregnancy on our state as a whole and on their individual communities.

Stay tuned for Road Show 2009!
